US Stamps, Covers and Philately: Confederate States

The first Confederate stamps were officially released in 1861, but can be dated back to December 20th, 1860 when South Carolina seceded from the Union. Stamps were printed using lithography (a 5c green imperforate bearing the portrait of President Jefferson Davis, appeared on October 16, 1861. Davis was the first living President to appear on a postage stamp), typography (Scott #6 and #7), and engraving (Scott #8 - #13).
